    2Kings

Seeking out an architect may seem like a luxury you can’t afford, when in fact enlisting the help of architects David and Anna King of 2Kings is just the opposite. Working with this team provides everything from inspiration to visualization, construction and design. With David’s background in finance and Anna’s background in fine art the 2Kings will keep you within a budget and even help you select your sofa: they know what it takes to build and who to enlist, help cultivate and bring your style to life, and mindfully carry the entire concept to fruition.

Architecture is magic! It is an alchemy of art and science that merges utility and beauty to provide shelter and refuge. Buildings are necessary for survival... and also for progress. As the world changes and evolves so does the way we think and how we choose to live in it. David and Anna King are in tune to this growth and it’s why they chose the Crystal Coast for their home and the setting to run their business. Living here provides the perfect backdrop to incorporate their vision for designing and building homes incorporating environmental sustainability, historic conservation and the coastal aesthetic in what they do.

Another compelling factor is this area’s rich history and the accordingly abundant historic homes and landmark buildings. David remarks, “Part of the gift and challenge of architecture is modeling modern structures to fit into a historic context.” The Kings relish that opportunity and also recognize—in what they call historic modernization— that a home is not a museum piece, its purpose is functional living that provides not only a desirable environment, but one that has integrity and enhances convenience and well-being. It’s been shown that people who connect with their surroundings are healthier and happier—less likely to be stressed, more likely to feel a sense of community and pride.  The way to do that is to create our own surroundings, determine and decide the flow and feel of our homes and outdoor spaces.

David and Anna King are the means and the way to do that.  From inception to completion 2Kings can be involved in the entire building process. Choosing site and design that balance exposure to light and sound, using recycled and repurposed items like barn wood, or finding unique and durable materials that suit the environment...like glulams and tobacco sticks. These are a few of the ways in which the 2Kings experience is uniquely extraordinary.   The pair is a dynamic one, working systematically with ideas bouncing from one to the other, the ability to see them through artistically and mathematically, including revolutionary vision, engineering, strategy, fashion and form. They are problem solvers. They are tenacious!

Something as simple as subway tile becomes a vehicle for brilliance in their minds and hands, going from simple brick pattern to whimsical waterfall. “The best creative ideas come out of the toughest constraints,” was Anna’s reply to our awe and amazement over the tile installation.

From parks, to restaurants, to private residences to land development, 2Kings have made their mark on the community.  See for yourself! They donated their inventiveness and their time to build Harborside Park, an over-the-water community deck space in Beaufort, part of the North Carolina Maritime Museum across the street. They are friends and clients of Mary Cheatham who’s help and opinions we have sought out and utilized time and time again… and also to get a squeeze from their cute twin girls!!
